Getting Started

This document is intended to walk you through setting up Codebook for the first time. If you have already set up Codebook and wish to Sync with Codebook on a new device, please see Syncing with a New Device.

On macOS:

  1. Download and install Codebook on your Mac.
  2. Launch Codebook (it should be in the Applications folder).
  3. The first thing you'll do is set your Master Password, and re-enter it to confirm.
  4. Click on Set Password
  5. You will be prompted to Enable Touch ID Login, if this feature is available on your device.
  6. You will be asked if you would like to Enable Statistics
  7. You will be asked if you would like to Enable Password Review
  8. You will be asked - Do you already use Codebook?  Select No, setup sync for a new database
  9. The main Codebook screen will be displayed which contains two sample categories.

On Windows:

  1. Download and install Codebook on your Windows PC.
  2. You will be prompted to Enter a master password. Click on Login
  3. You will be prompted to Please confirm new master password. Click on Login
  4. The main Codebook screen will be displayed which contains two sample categories.

On iOS:

  1. Visit this link on your iOS device to install Codebook.
  2. Launch Codebook for the first time on your iOS device
  3. Tap Get Started
  4. Create a Master Password, reenter to confirm.
  5. Tap Next
  6. You will be prompted to Enable Touch ID Login or Enable Face ID Login, if this feature is available on your device.
  7. You will be asked if you would like to Enable Notifications
  8. You will be asked if you would like to Send Statistics
  9. You will be given the option to select a sync method.

    Syncing is the means to synchronize your Codebook data with all of your devices that use Codebook. If you only use Codebook on one device, you can use the sync feature to make a backup of your data on another device in case of machine failure.

  10. For a new user, it is recommended that you select Set up sync later. The Categories screen will be displayed. Your installation is complete.

    If you already use Codebook you can sync your data using one of these providers.Google Drive Dropbox Desktop WiFi.

    If you opt to select a sync provider, the Sync screen will be displayed. Tap Start to setup your Sync Key and Sync.

On Android:

  1. Visit this link on your Android to install Codebook.
  2. Launch Codebook for the first time on your Android.
  3. Set the master password - Tap GO
  4. Confirm your password - Tap GO
  5. If the feature is available on your device, you will be prompted to allow Codebook to use Fingerprint Authentication
  6. Release Notes will be displayed. To continue, Tap the check mark on the top right corner of the screen. This will bring you to the categories screen.
