Troubleshooting Passkey Autofill

Codebook is a cross-platform credential provider that securely stores and syncs passkeys, allowing users to log into apps and websites using the passkey stored in Codebook instead of a traditional password. Codebook syncs your passkeys across different operating systems which makes passkeys easier to use on your devices regardless of the operating system. Implementation of passkeys may vary by website, application or service. This variation can cause an issue when you are using your passkey. Here are some topics to help you troubleshoot difficulties that may occur.

Support for passkeys in Codebook began with Release 5.4.

Your devices must meet that minimum OS requirement for passkeys:

Platform Minimum OS
Android 14.0
iOS 17.0
macOS 14.0
Windows 11 version 24h2
Linux Not supported

If you have saved a passkey on a device that supports passkeys, it will still be sync to a device running Codebook on an older OS version that does not support passkeys, but of course you will not be able to use it on the older OS version.

Before we get started, be sure that:

  1. You have enabled Passkey Autofill.
  2. Codebook is currently running on your device.

Passkeys are not universally supported and some applications/websites that use passkeys do not allow passkeys from a Third-Party Credential Provider. Codebook is a Third-Party Credential Provider.

Check that your device has an active screen lock (PIN or biometrics) enabled.

Codebook has been tested on the following browsers:

  • Safari
  • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
